Our Plating Methods

Copper Plating

Our copper-plating services provide excellent lubricity and anti-galling properties that prevent cross-threading. We can handle high-volume production runs for a wide variety of parts such as oil and gas couplings, tubulars, and pipes.

Our immersion copper plating prepares a base layer for additional metal plating and enables selective masking before the plating process. After plating, the parts have a bright copper finish.

We are the only certified applicator in the Americas of Hunting Clear-Run®, the advanced tubular system field-proven to replace “pipe dope” in preventing galling during traditional OCTG processes.

Phosphate (Zinc and Nickel Manganese)

Available in various coating weights, phosphate of either zinc or nickel manganese enhances lubricity, provides short term corrosion protection, and can be an excellent base for further coatings. With an up to 50,000-pound submersion process capacity, phosphate complements carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and cast iron products such as pistons, machined parts, tubulars, and more.

Silver Plating

Silver plating offers a slew of benefits for industrial use, including enhanced electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion and wear resistance, and solderability. Available in both rack and barrel plating, we frequently apply silver to thrust washers, bearing sleeves, gaskets, fittings, and rock bits, and we are the only company within 750 miles of Greater Houston to silver-plate bus bars.

Electroless Nickel Plating

The chemical reaction in our autocatalytic plating process produces a highly uniform coating ideal for parts with hard-to-reach areas such as plungers, frac sleeves, valves, and internals. Electroless nickel delivers exceptional hardness, excellent corrosion protection, lubricity, and friction resistance.

Zinc Plating

Zinc is a naturally strong defender against corrosion, reacting with oxygen and carbon dioxide when exposed to the environment to create zinc carbonate that protects the steel underneath. S+S zinc plating is made even stronger via a thin chromate layer, making it a sound choice for both mild (screws and fasteners) and extreme (machined parts and automotive components) applications. We can electroplate zinc through either rack or barrel plating.

S+S Industries meets rigorous American Petroleum Institute (API) standards for zinc and zinc nickel plating.

Zinc Nickel Plating

Although it’s electroplated in a similar process, zinc nickel plating ramps up zinc plating’s corrosion-fighting prowess dramatically, without resorting to the use of toxic cadmium. Fasteners, bushings, and similar machined and stamped components used in many oil and gas applications. Zn-Ni plating can also be applied across the automotive, aerospace, defense, and agriculture industries.

Tin Plating

In addition to delivering excellent corrosion protection, tin plating is a cost-effective means of creating a clean contact surface that’s optimized for conducting electrical currents through electrical components. Unlike other metals which may allow the current to jump from pole to pole, tin isolates the signal for accurate reporting via built-in LED screens.
